about

closure: UNCOUNTABLE NOUN /ˈkləʊʒə(r) — the final step in the grieving process; figurative 'scar tissue'. if someone achieves closure, they’ve succeeded in accepting something bad that has happened to them.

“Mutations’s side starts with the track ‘False Sense of Security’, which begins with a wall of noise, higher in the mid-frequencies without much low-end. It fades in, and is soon accompanied by a booming full-frequency wall of noise. The second wall is made a little bassier, and then the highs become more prominent. The noise shifts and drones, changing the prominence of various frequencies. Then, for a while, it remains unchanged.

Resonance is added to the noise, making it scream a bit. Then the resonance drops out, leaving a booming wall of noise once more, which drones unchanged for a while. High-frequencies then become more prominent, with a little resonance added in the highs. The resonance drops out once more, and the booming drone returns. Something vaguely tonal appears in the mix, and then is overwhelmed by non-tonal noise.

‘False Sense of Safety’ begins with a chaotic drone with some resonance that is soon altered a bit. A low noise drone accompanies it, fading in. Then the chaotic drone becomes even more chaotic. The sound goes on for quite some time with little change, until a hint of static plays, then stops, and the sound continues. A metallic sound can be heard, but soon some noise with a slight bit of resonance is added. One part of the mix flubs a bit. The metallic sounds return, like junk rattling around. Then the character of the chaotic noise wall becomes immersed in some effect, perhaps some chorus. The sound drones on. A very bassy set of frequencies appear briefly, then disappear. The sound has a little distorted resonance added in the mids, which play for a bit then fade out. The metallic sounds, like a malfunctioning machine, return and become the main focus of the mix. Some of the noise drops out, and the track ends with a tonal noise.

Serene Ailment’s side consists of one song, called ‘Penance’. It begins with a distorted synthesizer that plays pensive-sounding notes that quickly become noisier, with a synth pad playing but in another part of the mix distorted sound threatens to overwhelm all. The sound develops and becomes richer with distorted harmonics. Then, chaotic tones play, not in any time signature, and very distorted.

A distorted scream comes in, shrieking into the mix. It does not speak in any rhythm but seems to express great emotional pain. The music becomes more low-key, and the voice settles down a little bit, but the vocals are still extreme. The harmony and melody in the synth section develop a little bit, lending atmosphere that is contrasted by the distortion as the vocals drop out for a bit, only to return. There is then a passage without vocals, where the melody and distortion seem to become more consonant, if that were possible, but then, later, a little more dissonance is present in the sound.

Then, one of the synths becomes louder, becoming the main focus, but still contrasted by the distortion, which seems to swallow the synth in the next part. The synth does not protest, but returns in full force. Everything becomes a little less active as the synth drones for a bit. It returns to being more active soon, however, and the distortion becomes more active as well. Then, the vocals return, evocative of terror, as another track comes in with a lot of distortion and high pitched noise. The vocals disappear for a bit once again. Then, cries of agony populate the mix. There is a pitch slide downward, and most of the mix partially disappears except for a rasping voice and a little distorted pitch sliding. The synths are still in the background, but less prominent by a long shot. An utterly sadistic vocal sample plays, ending the album.”
